About Enabling the How

Our call to action at 5th Place is to focus on developing emotional fitness and mental well-being in order to create positive change in the world. Join us, Chantal and Matthew, co-owners of 5th Place, in our escapades every week as we stumble and trip, dance and whirl our way through very normal and not so normal weeks in their drive to make the world a better place. This “How” comes in many different forms and in this case it comes in the form of sharing life, loves, and loss. It’s also a whole lot of what living is like in South Africa.

Presence rather than prediction

9 October 2025

Digging into the past, specifically the COVID years, was sobering and sad. The global stress response pushed us into navel gazing when it would have been better to be present to what was. Not easy on

Accept and say No

2 October 2025

In a week sliced in half by a public holiday, we had the opportunity to consider carefully where we wanted to spend our time. Being able to say No gave us space and time for more.

Reflect ourselves

25 September 2025

Expecting a breathe out week and not getting it, knowing that we are not very clever and can get hooked easily we reflect on what it takes to do differently.

Journey within yourself

18 September 2025

Our visitor, Matthew B, is included in our day to day life and taken on an adventure to the source of our work. This excursion reminds us that it is the inner journey that truly heals.

Wings of imagination

11 September 2025

A moment of imagining that one orchid can whisper to another, reminded us of childhood times when our imaginations kept us keen company. As adults, has living got in the way of imagining?
