About Enabling the How
Our call to action at 5th Place is to focus on developing emotional fitness and mental well-being in order to create positive change in the world. Join us, Chantal and Matthew, co-owners of 5th Place, in our escapades every week as we stumble and trip, dance and whirl our way through very normal and not so normal weeks in their drive to make the world a better place. This “How” comes in many different forms and in this case it comes in the form of sharing life, loves, and loss. It’s also a whole lot of what living is like in South Africa.

A drive to venture out
After over four years of lying low, we have started to feel the urgent need to get out more, to spread our stiff and dusty wings. A full and plump weekend provided us with much to chew on.
Dots and boxes
A short and contracted week where being creative and surrendering to what is played a major role once again. Having fun and playing games brought smiles and laughter to a group of teens.
Fathers foster the future
A June Sunday commemorated opposite of the ends of the generation scale: fathers and youth. Strong fathers lead to strong youth, which in turn fosters a strong and hopeful future.
Capacity for creativity
By resting and listening to our bodies we beat the flu and found the capacity to get out for some creative exploits. Time to change the narrative that expects us to be on the top of our game always.
An upgrade and a reboot
We don’t get sick. And then we did. In the throws of battling through a knock you flat flu we had to be patient, consistent and kind to ourselves, trusting that our body would do the work it needed to.
Moments made meaningful
The last day of our trip signalled an opportunity to meet people that we knew through familiar links. Our trip back home continued to add gems to our list of the interesting connections we made.
Served with surprises
Going back to places we have been before does not result in the same experience. Big trees, baboons, and bad weather could have impacted, but didn’t, what are more encounters to add to our story box.
Dear friends and important places
A weekend at Knysna with dear and long time friends brings up memories of the beginning of our work and how connectedness that stays strong across time and space makes such a difference in our lives.
Time to blow the dust off
The first part of an anticipated road trip takes us to interesting places with unforgettable people. A storyline is woven of a will by all to live and prosper along with the belief that it can be done.
