What you will need

  • A quiet, private space to move and sculpt
  • Clay, playdough, or any other malleable sculpting material
  • A curious, open mindset and a willingness to explore your emotions creatively

How to do the activity

  • Choose an emotion you'd like to explore, such as joy, sadness, fear, or calm. Take a moment to connect with that feeling in your body.
  • Begin to move your body in a way that expresses the essence of that emotion. Let your movements be organic, uninhibited, and true to your inner experience. Spend a few minutes fully embodying the feeling through movement.
  • After a few minutes, pause in a posture that captures the core of the emotion, as if you were a living sculpture.
  • Now, using your clay or playdough, sculpt a physical representation of that emotion. Let your hands intuitively shape the material, mirroring the felt sense of the feeling in your body. Take your time and allow the sculpture to evolve organically.
  • Once complete, observe your sculpture with curiosity and openness. Notice any insights or new perspectives it offers about the emotion. If you wish, reshape the sculpture to reflect a different aspect of the feeling, or transition to sculpting a new emotion altogether.
