If I have lived my life in an unconscious fog battered by societal demands and expectations it takes time, effort and energy to climb out of the grey and find my own way. It is an ongoing process and it starts with me. Always.
Leading a meaningful and fulfilling life
I want to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life. I aim to develop myself to be a better person, to be a productive, contributing member of society. My life is made better through experiences that enhance it, that make me think and provide me with opportunities to improve, grow and develop as a member of the human race. Our vision at 5th Place is to make the world a better place. And who doesn’t see the vast opportunities for this? There is so much that is wrong with the world. It is easy to point fingers and find blame. It can also be pretty overwhelming to know where to begin so staying stuck in the blame game can be a useful strategy to not doing anything.
Are you living your best life?
At each workshop we ask our participants the following questions: Do you know why you are on this earth? Do you live your life with meaning and purpose? Or are you assailed by the demands that society, your culture and family place on you? What about the prevailing wisdom that to be successful means you have to have a job, earn lots of money and have lots of things? How does this make you feel? Do you love your job? Is it work or Work? Do you have time for those you love? How well do you connect with others? What is your health like? Are you living your best life? We then ask them what their best life would look like. This is a time for reflection, visions, goals, desires and dreams. The room goes quiet and the change in the energy becomes palpable. It fizzes and pops with creativity and joy. We want to make the world a better place and they want to live their best life. Where to start? Michael Jackson says it beautifully in his song Man in the Mirror: “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make the change.” I encourage you to watch the music video for this song. It is shocking to see how little has actually changed since the song was released in 1988. The song is thirty years old this year and very little is different in the world. What can be done to make a difference, drive change to make the world a better place, a place to live our best lives? Well, it starts with me.
The only thing I have any control over is myself
The only thing I have any control over is myself. The only person who can make a difference in my life is me. It starts with me choosing to work on me. Mainly the inner me. To clear my own stuff and do the inner work on my emotions and feelings. Deliberately. Consciously. With regular practice.
It starts with me. Always.
If I have lived my life in an unconscious fog battered by societal demands and expectations it takes time, effort and energy to climb out of the grey and find my own way. One exercise session does not give me a toned, flat stomached body, one meal does not feed me forever, one drink doesn’t eternally quench my thirst – you get the idea. It is an ongoing process and it starts with me. Always. If you make your inner world a better place, you will make your outer world a better place too. Image credit: Pixabay
