How we handle your data and protect your privacy
Overview
OG Card Generator is a Chrome extension that transforms URLs into beautiful preview cards for email and WhatsApp, with each share including a moment of Emotional Fitness from the 5th Place Model.
We collect limited anonymous usage data to improve the service. This privacy policy describes how we handle your data, what information we collect, and how we protect your privacy.

Information We Collect
When you use OG Card Generator, we collect minimal information necessary to provide the service:
Shared URLs and Metadata: When you create a shareable card, the source URL, title, description, and image from the webpage are sent to our backend (5th.place) to generate short links and classify content themes.
Usage Statistics: Anonymous aggregate metrics including event counts (cards created, viewed, clicked), theme distribution, and timestamps. These statistics are displayed publicly at 5th.place/ogc/stats.
Card Content: Titles, descriptions, and images from shared URLs are temporarily processed and stored for the card's expiration period.
Technical Data: Temporary IP-based rate limiting (not stored in analytics). Timestamps for time-series statistics.
User Preferences: Card styling preferences (borders, fonts, colors) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
What We Do Not Collect
We want to be crystal clear about what we don't collect:

How We Use Your Data
We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:
1. Generate Shareable Links: Create short links (5th.place/c/[code]) for your preview cards that can be shared via email, WhatsApp, or other platforms.
2. Theme Classification: Automatically categorize content to provide relevant Emotional Fitness moments from the 5th Place Model (Thinking, Feeling, Moving, Nourishing, Relating).
3. Public Statistics: Display aggregate usage metrics at 5th.place/ogc/stats showing total cards created, popular themes, and usage trends. No individual user data is revealed.
4. Service Improvement: Understand usage patterns to enhance features, fix bugs, and improve the extension's functionality.
5. Rate Limiting: Prevent abuse by temporarily tracking request rates per IP address (not stored permanently).
Data Storage and Retention
OG cards are stored in Cloudflare's infrastructure (R2 object storage for images and KV key-value store for metadata).
When you create a card, you can set an expiration period ranging from 1 day to 1 year. The default expiration is 14 days. Available options: 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 180 days, and 1 year.
After the expiration period, cards and their associated images are automatically deleted from our systems. There is no manual deletion required.
Usage Metrics Retention:
• Daily metrics: 90 days
• Weekly metrics: 1 year
• Monthly metrics: 5 years
• All-time totals: Permanent (aggregated counts only)
User Preferences: Stored locally in your browser only. We do not have access to your styling preferences. They may sync across your devices if Chrome sync is enabled in your browser.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to provide OG Card Generator:
Cloudflare: We use Cloudflare Workers for serverless computing, R2 for object storage (images), and KV for key-value storage (metadata). All data is processed within Cloudflare's global network. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
Chrome Web Store: The extension is distributed through Google's Chrome Web Store. Google may collect installation and usage statistics according to their privacy policy. Google Privacy Policy
Twitter/X.com API: For Twitter/X.com links, metadata is fetched via our backend proxy at 5th.place/api/fetch-metadata due to platform restrictions. We do not store Twitter data beyond the card expiration period.
No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party analytics/tracking services. All metrics are collected and aggregated by our own backend.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We want to be transparent about how data is shared:
✅ Public Statistics: Aggregate usage metrics are displayed publicly at 5th.place/ogc/stats. These statistics show total counts, theme distributions, and trends but contain zero individual user data.
❌ No Data Sales: We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
❌ No Advertising Partners: We do not share data with advertising networks or data brokers.
❌ No Individual Tracking: We do not create user profiles or track individuals across websites.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of 5th Place, our users, or others.
Your Rights and Control
You have the following rights regarding your data:
Access and Transparency: View public usage statistics at 5th.place/ogc/stats. Since we don't track individual users, there is no personal data profile to access.
Automatic Expiration: All card data expires automatically based on your selected expiration period (1 day to 1 year). No manual deletion is required.
Local Preferences: Your styling preferences are stored locally in your browser. You can delete them by removing the extension or clearing browser data.
Opt-Out: Simply don't create shareable cards if you don't want your URLs processed. The extension can still be used for local card generation and clipboard copying without creating shareable links.

Security Measures
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
HTTPS Encryption: All communication between the extension and our backend uses HTTPS encryption to protect data in transit.
No User Accounts: There are no user accounts, passwords, or authentication credentials to compromise. The extension operates without login.
Minimal Data Collection: We follow the principle of data minimization by design, collecting only what's necessary to provide the service.
Cloudflare Infrastructure: Data is stored in Cloudflare's highly secure, globally distributed infrastructure with enterprise-grade security measures.
Automatic Expiration: Card data is automatically deleted after expiration, reducing the window of potential exposure.
While we implement security best practices, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Use the extension at your own risk, and avoid sharing sensitive or confidential information in card titles or descriptions.
Children's Privacy
OG Card Generator is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@5th.place, and we will take steps to remove such information.
International Users
OG Card Generator is operated from South Africa and uses Cloudflare's global network for content delivery and storage.
If you use the extension from outside South Africa, your data may be processed and stored in data centers located in various countries around the world through Cloudflare's network.
By using OG Card Generator, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data as described in this privacy policy.
Chrome Web Store Compliance
OG Card Generator complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies regarding user data and privacy.
Permission Justifications:
• activeTab: Read the current tab's URL and Open Graph metadata when you click the extension icon. The URL is sent to our backend to generate shareable cards.
• clipboardWrite: Copy generated cards to your clipboard when you click copy buttons.
• host_permissions: Fetch Open Graph images from websites and send card data to 5th.place to generate shareable links.
• scripting: Inject content scripts to extract Open Graph metadata from web pages when you activate the extension.
• storage: Save your styling preferences locally in browser storage (syncs across your devices if Chrome sync is enabled).
• tabs: Query the active tab to retrieve its URL and title when you open the extension popup.
The extension does not use remote code. All JavaScript is packaged within the extension bundle. No external scripts are loaded or executed.
Policy Updates
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors.
When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and may provide additional notice through the extension or our website.
We encourage you to review this privacy policy periodically to stay informed about how we handle your data.
