Providing emotional tools and skills to support children
Studies show that our experiences in early childhood have a profound impact on our adult lives. Therefore, it is vital to prioritise the emotional component of any holistic approach to child development.
Children who have experienced difficult circumstances, negative impacts on attachment and attunement with their primary caregiver, and in the extreme (trauma), often struggle with emotional regulation. This can hinder their ability to effectively engage in learning activities.
If we can provide children with tools and skills to support themselves through difficult emotional experiences, we can enable them to take control of their lives in ways that are healthy and ever-lasting.
We’ve seen that when a program incorporates strategies that promote emotional fitness, a supportive learning environment can be created that allows these children to navigate their emotions and focus on learning and the curriculum at hand.
Emotional fitness skills can help these young learners develop resilience, improve their social skills, and enhance their overall well-being. This in turn builds a solid foundation for their future learning, progress and growth.
